Blue Elephant @ Surasak station - Michelin Guide restaurant

Bangkok - We went on Monday for dinner to Blue Elephant restaurant and was told that it's fully booked; so had to booked for Wed dinner.   Surfing the interest I realise that this is one of the world's accolade awarded Thai restaurant and tourist comes from all over the world to dine here - originally started from Belgium.

Blue Elephant restaurant

This restaurant is housed in an elegant bungalow near Surasak BTS station.  This is a Thai dining restaurant and the dress code of no shorts but they do loan pants to patrons.   The waiter serve the our dining plates hot.

Nice pic of Lesley and George

complimentary Apetitizers

Roast Duck with kai lan

This duck dish more delicious than at Mandarin Duck restaurant.   The duck was roast leaving a tinge of redness within so the meat tasted juicy.

Pork ribs

The pork ribs was marinated well and it tasted very tender.   The dish was well presented.

Mixed vegetables

Sea bass fish Thai Style
This fish is very fresh and tasted really good with the spicy Thai sauce.

Plate of mixed fruits

Durian cheese cake

The restaurant was lined with photos of this celebrity chef and articles written about her.

Shop

There is also a Blue Elephant shop for tourist and patrons to buy memorabilia, mugs and sorts.    When we are on the BTS back to our hotel, this celebrity chef was also pasted on the train...

Master Chef Nooror

It was really a good dinner...

Paul for eclairs

Bangkok - Paul is a French patisserie located at Emporium Mall; they have 8 patisserie in Singapore scattered across the island.

Eclairs
I love eclairs and this is one of the best I have tasted - the crust is soft and the chocolate fillings are rich and creamy.

Croissant
The croissant is very fluffy on the outside and moist on the inside.   Even the butter was served with style.

Chocolate wholemeal

Quiche

Mandarin Roast Duck restaurant

Bangkok - Lunch was at a Thai Chinese restaurant touted to be the Best roast duck in Bangkok.   My expectation was high but was sorely disappointed.   The duck was not juicy but dry; a let down.

Address:
729/2 Soi Sukhumvit 55 , Sukhumvit 55 Road, Khlong Tan Nuea Subdistrict, Watthana District

Half a roasted duck

5 steamed prawns
Mandarin roast duck is very expensive - 5 pieces of prawns is Bht 350 (about SGD 14) which is the same as half a roast duck.   What was shocking was a crab claw price was Bhat 350.

Sea Asparagus and vegetables
This was the only dish that was above par and tasted delicious.    I was quite disappointed with Mandarin Duck restaurant roasted duck....

Harrod's in Bangkok

Bangkok - I had breakfast@ Harrod's cafe affiliated to the Harrod's department store of London.

Harrod's guards stood outside the restaurant
The bear on the right-hand side

wide selection of English pies

Butter scones
This is one of the best scones I have tasted but on the expensive side.

Lesley's Quiche
He must be hungry this morning as he also ate a big plate of salad

Duck & orange salad
2 Porched eggs with sausages
I waited a long time for my breakfast set of 2 porched eggs but it was delicious porched.  A bite through the eggs revealed an orange colour juicy yolk topped with cheese.    It was a good breakfast at Harrod's.

Ban Chiang - an over rated top restaurant

Bangkok -  Ban Chiang restaurant is a short walking distance from Surasak BTS station housed in a traditional Thai bungalow. We sat on the ground floor and could hear creaking timber ceiling sounds when guests are seated on the 2nd floor. The whole restaurant is decorated with memorabilia of old photos and vintage stuff. Many tourist and hardly a Thai patron in sight.

Lesley and me with our fresh coconuts

Gourd leaves with roasted duck

Crab fried rice

Thai Green curry

Omelette with prawns

Steamed sea bass
The sea bass fish was a disappointment as it was not a fresh live fish but probably a chilled fish from the taste of the meat.    The condiments are usually strong herbs to mask the smell of chilled fish.   I think tourist rate this restaurant primarily on the atmosphere and ambiance but the food is just OK.   Unfortunately not worth a second visit.
