Sushi Zanmai @ Komtar JBCC

Johor Bahru - For lunch we were hankering for Japanese food and 'Sushi Zanmai' came into mind.  This is not related to the famous Sushizanmai of Japan but a knock-off by using a similar name.  There was a queue but we quickly got seated and ordered unfortunately the service was very slow.

Chicken Karaage Don

Salmon Don (large size)
I had a smaller portion of this Salmon Don and it really tasted very fresh and good.  We ordered much more but was too hungry to take the pics of all.  It's worth coming again to this restaurant.

Bazaar Karat - Pasar Malam

Johor Bahru - After dinner we took a grab and drop off at Johor Bahru's famous night market - Bazaar Karat.   This is a large night market (also called Pasar malam or flea market) that has a wealth of hidden treasure just waiting to be discovered.  It was very crowded and you have be careful of pickpockets.   It is night market that sells everything from shoes, clothing, food, drinks, and toys.

Entrance to the pasar malam
You can spend more than an hour walking around store to store.   Some vendors are singing karoke style and some are selling bootleg DVD and watches.

Dinner @ Ong Shun Seafood restaurant

Johor Bahru - Just took a grab to Ong Shun Seafood restaurant and it's about 25 mins from our Hotel.   Ranked #10 on the Top 10 seafood restaurant in JB.  There were many local chinese enjoying a meal at this restaurant.

Butter Cream Sotong
This was the first dish and it came slowly one dish at a time.   This dish was the best - the sotong was fresh and it was tasty and buttery.

Kang Kong with Blachan
Though it was medium it was a good sizeable dish but a bit too oily for me.

Pepper crab
The crabs are not really fresh.  The Chilli crab does not taste like the usual Singapore chilli crab sauce.

Fried Man Tow
Big and big man tow - simply delicious.

Fried Sotong Fritters
This dish was really bad - the fritters are out of shape as you can see from the pic.  The sotong fillings are also pathetic.

We also ordered a chilli crab and a large plate of Hong Kong noodles....for the 5 of us it cost RM 225.

Plaza Sentosa

Johor Bahru - We went to Sentosa Plaza for lunch, durians and shopping.  It was a quiet and empty mall with many of the shops closed.   There is a food court on the ground floor - the food is nothing spectacular - simple and decent priced meal.

Fried fish noodle soup

The Store which is a supermarket chain and the anchor tenant of Plaza Sentosa and the prices are reasonable - lots of good stuff to buy.    Just outside the Sentosa Plaza is a durian store - we ate 2 durians for RM95.

S.D.S restaurant & Mortal Engine movie

Johor - We took a short family trip to Johor by buying a bus ticket from Causewaylink bus operator located at Newton hawker centre open-air car park.  I was able to pay via EZlink at S$3.40 per person straight to JB immigration.  Around mid-day there was not much of a traffic and the immigration line was smooth.

We had dinner at SDS which is a Johor home-group restaurant.

Platter meal - Trev and Pax shared
The most worthed it was the platter meal - 2 pieces of fish, chicken chop and lamb chop; 2 drinks and deserts for RM58.90

Terriyaki Chicken chop

Mushroom Crispy Chicken

The chicken chops was RM 17.90 and it was tasty.

Seafood Marinara
We went and watch the 9.15pm Mortal Engine movie and ended around 11pm.

Ploen Seafood restaurant

Bangkok - Santisook brought me to this restaurant and the surrounding looks familiar.   Many thais come to this reasonably priced seafood restaurant.

gathering of good friends
Sashimi
This big platter of shashimi cost about S$25.  It tasted good and fresh.

Bangkok - What an awesome view from the 31st floor of Millenium Hilton Bangkok, the bar on the roof top was aptly called "360 roof top bar" and it even has a held-pad.

Flow Restaurant

Bangkok - I had my lunch at Flow restaurant before my next appointment.

Chicken satay

Som Tam
This Som Tam (green papaya salad) was a very big portion and a bit too spicy for me.

Mid-Autumn Festival Dinner in KL with friends

Kuala Lumpur - It's been more than 9 months since I have been back to Kuala Lumpur and it was good to catch up with good friends over dinner.

Lesley, Jimmy and Donny
It was a very good dinner with delicious suckling pig and fresh steam fish.

Suckling pig
This suckling pig was on promotion @ RM98 very reasonable for dish.  The skin was very crispy and  with the underside a nice juicy thin slice of fat.

Stir fried Petai and prawns
Petai (stinky beans), Malaysia's must try food and it's famous for lower blood cholesterol.  It's slightly bitter with a strong smell.  If eaten raw on a daily basis, it claim to reduce diabetes.

Huge bowl of soup
This gigantic bowl of soup has a mixture of pork and chicken meat.  It taste very peppery like Singapore's Bak Kut Teh.

Steamed Soon Hock
Super delicious and tender meat, steamed to perfection.

Labrador Nature Reserve

Singapore  - A short 10 minutes drive from 'Reflections at Bukit Chandu', I wanted to take a walk along the coast at Labrador.

Jurong port
Labrador Jetty
I walked along the jetty and found a number of anglers waiting patiently for a catch.

There is serenity and nature all around with BBQ pits for family and friends.   And a wild rooster too..the hen is on the other side of the tree.

You can even see Harbourfront and ferries plying this waterway.

Across is Sentosa island and Keppel island, in the distance you can see the cable cars.

Reflections at Bukit Chandu

Singapore - The 'Reflections at Bukit Chandu' is located Pepys Road and there was a car park at the begining of the road in front of the condominium which I parked but found out that I had to walk another 600m uphill.   So, I got into my car and drove up the hill at the many public car parks available.

I am visiting this WWII 'Reflections at Bukit Chandu' beacause it will be closed on 1 Oct for renovations until 2021.   "After the redevelopment, visitors can expect an immersive and engaging experience that will invite them to explore the history of the colonial bungalow, the hill and its surroundings before World War II, and learn more about the heroic acts of distinguished individuals in the Battle of Pasir Panjang," said the NHB in a statement.

Set amid the lush greenary of Bukit Chandu (Opium Hill) off Pasir Panjang, this black and white colonial bungalow was one of the battle sites in the Battle of Pasir Panjang where 1,400 brave soldiers from Malay Regiment made a heroic last stand against a 13,000-strong Japanese army in February 1942.   So many Japanese soldiers fell on this particular battle was one of the reasons for the Alexandra Hospital massacre.
