Ishin Japanese Dinning

Kuala Lumpur - I went to Ishin Japanese Dinning - one of Kuala Lumpur Top 10 Japnese restaurant that serves the freshest seafood in town.   Located at Old Klang Road.

It was good to see Edward and Donny, and enjoyed a great Japanese meal.

Very tender beef marinated with rich Japanese sauce and topped with generous amount of spring onions.

Tofu salad

The tofu simply melts in my mouth mixed with fresh salad, it was simply delicious.

The stinky Natto

To many, it smells rotten and the taste can be overpowering but I like the smell and the taste of fermented soya beans.

Ishin signature dish - Malaysia sushi 

This sushi has mango on top and within is unagi (eel) - so have the sweetness of the mango mixed with nice meaty texture of the eel.

F1 Kitchen Restaurant

Puchong - Donny and Edward brought me to F1 Kitchen Restaurant for some good Malaysian Lo Hei - and the wide menu selection of delicious chinese food.

I think the crazy Singaporean salted egg fish skin has also spread over to Malaysia...every Singapore restaurants must have a salted egg dish on their menu.

Fort Canning Park

Singapore -  After dropping my son for tuition, I took a short walk from St Andrew's Cathedral to Fort Canning Park.   As mentioned on the park website,  Fort Canning Park is an iconic hilltop that once sited the palaces of 14th century Kings and served as the Headquarters of the Far East Command Centre and British Army Barracks. The decision to surrender Singapore to the Japanese on 15 February 1942 was also made on the hill, in the Underground Far East Command Centre, commonly known as Battle Box.

As you walked along the permimeter of the park along the stairs, memorial tablets lined the wall of previous deceased British citizens.

The Cupolas

It was mentioned on the plaque that these two small monuments were designed by the important architect of early Singapore, G D Coleman (1795 - 1844). He also designed much larger structures with a similar shape. The roof of the Armenian Church of St Gregory the Illuminator at Hill Street once had a dome with such a structure on the top, but this was removed when the church was remodelled in 1854.

No record of their date of construction or their purpose survives; they were probably meant as places to rest and enjoy the peace and quiet of the hill.

Walking further up, I saw another structure and this was a memorial for a son by a British Elite.

Fort Canning Art Centre

9-pound Cannon

There are lots of historical artifacts in this park, just pass the cannon - there is a memorial for one of late King that ruled Temasek (Singapore).

Keramat Iskandar Shah

This is the shrine of Iskandar Shah with so many pigeons around.

Huge Petai tree

The fruit of the Petai tree also called 'Petai' is famous for medicinal healing effects for kidney and diabetes.

Atop the hill you can see the business distrinct and SMU in the distance.

Raffles House

It is a replica house of the former residence of Sir Stamford Raffles which was once built on the same site in 1822.

The Fort Canning Flagstaff

The Flagstaff, one of the three early navigation structures on Fort Canning Hill.  The flagstaff was used to display the arrival, identity, location and status of ships entering Singapore Harbour. This was followed by a time ball, a lighthouse and a telegraph office in later years.

Fort Canning Lighthouse

Fort Canning Hill, with its strategic location overlooking the Singapore Harbour, was used as a communication centre after the British established port here in 1819.  Fort Canning Lighthouse was built on the southern side of Fort Canning Hill to guide ships safely towards the Singapore Harbour. The first signal light on Fort Canning was a simple lantern attached to the top of the Flagstaff in 1855.

This area with the lighthouse and Raffle house is called Raffles Terrace.

There is alos an archelogical excavation around Fort Canning park.

Sushi Zanmai @ Komtar JBCC

Johor Bahru - For lunch we were hankering for Japanese food and 'Sushi Zanmai' came into mind.  This is not related to the famous Sushizanmai of Japan but a knock-off by using a similar name.  There was a queue but we quickly got seated and ordered unfortunately the service was very slow.

I had a smaller portion of this Salmon Don and it really tasted very fresh and good.  We ordered much more but was too hungry to take the pics of all.  It's worth coming again to this restaurant.  

Bazaar Karat - Pasar Malam

Johor Bahru - After dinner we took a grab and drop off at Johor Bahru's famous night market - Bazaar Karat.   This is a large night market (also called Pasar malam or flea market) that has a wealth of hidden treasure just waiting to be discovered.  It was very crowded and you have be careful of pickpockets.   It is night market that sells everything from shoes, clothing, food, drinks, and toys.

You can spend more than an hour walking around store to store.   Some vendors are singing karoke style and some are selling bootleg DVD and watches.

Dinner @ Ong Shun Seafood restaurant

Johor Bahru - Just took a grab to Ong Shun Seafood restaurant and it's about 25 mins from our Hotel.   Ranked #10 on the Top 10 seafood restaurant in JB.  There were many local chinese enjoying a meal at this restaurant.

Butter Cream Sotong

This was the first dish and it came slowly one dish at a time.   This dish was the best - the sotong was fresh and it was tasty and buttery.

Kang Kong with Blachan

Though it was medium it was a good sizeable dish but a bit too oily for me.

Pepper crab

The crabs are not really fresh.  The Chilli crab does not taste like the usual Singapore chilli crab sauce.

Fried Man Tow 

Big and big man tow - simply delicious.

Fried Sotong Fritters

This dish was really bad - the fritters are out of shape as you can see from the pic.  The sotong fillings are also pathetic.

We also ordered a chilli crab and a large plate of Hong Kong noodles....for the 5 of us it cost RM 225.

Plaza Sentosa

Johor Bahru - We went to Sentosa Plaza for lunch, durians and shopping.  It was a quiet and empty mall with many of the shops closed.   There is a food court on the ground floor - the food is nothing spectacular - simple and decent priced meal.

Fried fish noodle soup

The Store which is a supermarket chain and the anchor tenant of Plaza Sentosa and the prices are reasonable - lots of good stuff to buy.    Just outside the Sentosa Plaza is a durian store - we ate 2 durians for RM95.
